The dead returning to life! Was it supernatural, the occult, voodoo? None of that. It turns out that the greatest threat to our civilization is the mutated strain of a fungus that normally affects insect populations, turning bugs into zombies whose only goal is to spread spores. We received this transmission from the Moscow shelter days after the Event:
To evaluate the mechanisms of fungal transmission, studies were conducted in Pripyat, Ukraine in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, to examine the abundance and frequency of the outbreak of the prevalent fungus Cordyceps Militaris, in the local pine moth population. Specimens collected in the spring of 2013, showed average infection levels of over 68%. The fruiting bodies of this fungal species were found to infest the area. Due to improper containment procedures, several lab technicians were infected with a mutated strain that we have designated Cordyceps Pripyat. An unknown incident aboard the airvac helicopter carrying the infected scientists, caused the fuel tank to combust and the mutated fungus became airborne over a large area of the Moscow Oblat. We believe that is how it began.
